Namaste again! For our second post, let’s head south. As an Indian blogger, I feel a travel site is incomplete without the soul-soothing greenery of Kerala.
While Jaipur was all about royal history and desert hues, this post is about the “Slow Life” in the backwaters. Here is a layout for your next blog page:
Chasing Sunsets & Spice: My 3-Day Escape to Alleppey

There is a reason they call Kerala “God’s Own Country.” After the hustle of Bangalore’s traffic, arriving in Alleppey (Alappuzha) felt like someone had pressed the “mute” button on the world. The only sounds here are the ripples of water against the boat and the distant call of a kingfisher.
1. The Houseboat Experience: A Floating Home
If you go to Alleppey and don’t stay on a Kettuvallam, did you even go? These are traditional boats made of jackwood planks and tied together with coir ropes (not a single nail is used!).
- Pro Tip: Opt for a private overnight stay rather than a day cruise. Waking up in the middle of a lake with the mist rising off the water is a core memory you need.
- The Food: Our onboard chef prepared Karimeen Pollichattu (pearl spot fish marinated in spices and grilled in a banana leaf). It was, quite literally, the best meal of my life.
2. Kayaking Through the Narrow Canals
While the big houseboats stay in the wide Vembanad Lake, the real Kerala lives in the narrow interior canals. I rented a kayak at 6:00 AM.
![Image Suggestion: A first-person perspective shot from a orange kayak, looking down a narrow canal covered in green duckweed, with small colorful houses and villagers washing clothes on the banks.]
Floating past backyard hibiscus bushes and watching children take a boat to school reminds you that life can be simple, beautiful, and deeply connected to nature.
3. Marari Beach: The Quiet Alternative
Before heading home, I spent an afternoon at Marari Beach. Unlike the crowded beaches of North India, Marari is peaceful, clean, and lined with endless coconut groves. It’s the perfect spot to sit with a book and a fresh coconut.
🍛 My “Must-Eat” List for Alleppey:
- Puttu and Kadala Curry: The breakfast of champions.
- Kerala Parotta with Beef Fry (or Veg Kurma): Flaky, layered goodness.
- Banana Fritters (Pazham Pori): The perfect tea-time snack.
Planning Your Trip
- Best Time to Visit: September to March (The weather is pleasant and cool).
- How to Reach: The nearest airport is Kochi (COK), about a 2-hour drive away.
- What to Pack: Light cotton clothes, plenty of sunscreen, and a good camera!
